Gebhard and Jozwiak Announce $705,000 in Grants for Berks County Road Projects

BERKS – Sen. Chris Gebhard (R-48) and Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-5) today announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) Multimodal Transportation Fund has awarded grants for two Berks County transportation improvement projects totaling $705,000.

“I’m thrilled to see these funds coming into Berks County to upgrade our roads and infrastructure to enhance the lives of those in our communities,” Jozwiak said.

“These improvements will both increase public safety and make infrastructure improvements that will attract more commercial business,” said Gebhard.

South Heidelberg Township will receive $390,000 to construct a new extension of Krick Lane. This will create a new traffic pattern to reduce dangerous traffic stacking in the area where two large residential developments are located.

A $315,000 grant has been approved for improvements at the Bethel Business Center site in Bethel Township. This project will signalize an intersection to improve traffic flow and moderate speed on Camp Swatara Road.

The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages. It holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth.
