HARRISBURG — Sen. Chris Gebhard (R-48) and Rep. Russ Diamond (R-102) announced today that a project to improve a park in Lebanon County was awarded funding from the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program.
Jackson Township received $250,000 to develop Wheatland Woods Park. The proposed project would expand on the recreational area currently provided at the Kutztown Fire Company Park by constructing a shared use trail, basketball court, parking lot and more.
“These projects will benefit local communities by providing additional recreational options for residents of all ages,” said Gebhard. “I’m happy to have helped secure this highly competitive funding — these projects, while important to creating thriving communities, can be expensive for municipalities.”
“I am happy to extend my support for this expansion project at the Wheatland Woods Park which will benefit the residents of Jackson Township and the surrounding community. This project would not be possible without the collaboration of local and state entities,” said Diamond. “We are thankful for the investment Jackson Township and Kutztown Fire Company has made for their community.”
The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program funds projects involving development, rehabilitation and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails and river conservation. The grants are funded through the Marcellus Shale Fund, which was created by Act 13 of 2012.
The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
