Gebhard, Barton, Weaknecht Announce Nearly $1.5 Million in Gaming Revenue to Support Berks and Lancaster County Projects

HARRISBURG — Sen. Chris Gebhard (R-48), Rep. Jamie Barton (R-124) and Rep. Eric Weaknecht (R-5) announced projects in Berks and Lancaster counties were awarded nearly $1.5 million in Statewide Local Share Account (LSA) funds from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) today.

“I’m happy to have helped secure this funding, which will pay for most if not all these projects’ costs,” Gebhard said. “We all depend on clean water, reliable sewer systems and strong public safety departments to keep our communities safe and healthy.”

The following projects were funded through the Statewide LSA Program which uses proceeds from online gaming revenue to support projects of public interest across the commonwealth:

  • Berks County, on behalf of the Reading Regional Airport Authority — $291,944 for wastewater system upgrades.
  • Berks County Emergency Response Team — $200,000 to purchase equipment upgrades for officers countywide.
  • Bern Township — $76,520 to purchase a new vehicle for the public works department.
  • Heidelberg Township, on behalf of the Womelsdorf Volunteer Fire Company — $52,737 to purchase rescue and extrication tools.
  • Lower Heidelberg Township, on behalf of the Western Berks Fire Department — $77,746 to purchase an incident command vehicle.
  • Penn Township — $40,000 to purchase a stainless-steel dump truck body for use by the public works department
  • Womelsdorf Borough, on behalf of the Womelsdorf Volunteer Fire Company — $50,608 to upgrade the fire station exhaust extraction system.

“This funding will go a long way toward covering the cost of critical projects in our communities”, Weaknecht said. “I’m grateful to have worked together with Sen. Gebhard to bring these gaming revenue funds back to the district to help defray costs that otherwise would have been passed to residents.”

  • East Cocalico Township — $229,331 to create the Wabash Green Park within the Wabash Landing community.
  • Hamburg Municipal Authority — $70,000 to purchase a new truck.
  • Tilden Township — $136,700 to pave the parking lot at Tilden Park.
  • Upper Tulpehocken Township — $52,916 for a digital community events message board on the municipal office property.
  • Upper Tulpehocken Township — $106,000 to purchase a skid loader for road maintenance.
  • Upper Tulpehocken Township, on behalf of the Strausstown Volunteer Fire Company — $81,000 to purchase firefighting equipment.
  • Windsor Township — $30,000 to improve Windsor Township Park.

“Using online gaming funds to pay for public works projects helps ease the burden on taxpayers and delivers real results for our communities,” Barton said. “I’m happy to have secured this funding for the 124th legislative district.”

The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to administer the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages. The Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act of 2004 provides for the distribution of gaming revenue through the CFA.
