HARRISBURG — Sen. Chris Gebhard (R-48) and Rep. John Schlegel (R-101) today announced $810,000 was awarded for a project to improve rail freight transportation infrastructure in downtown Lebanon.
Current rail congestion, caused by limited track availability, is inhibiting Peachey Rail Works’ ability to serve demand. This funding will provide for the construction of two additional tracks, installation of a modern unloading pit and conveyor system and critical site preparation work, all of which will modernize the center. These enhancements are essential to reduce car backlogs, attract new clients and enable Lebanon County to serve as a rail freight logistics hub in southeast Pennsylvania.
“This public-private partnership promises to deliver significant benefits to regional commerce, Pennsylvania’s agricultural industry and the commonwealth’s multimodal freight system,” said Gebhard and Schlegel. “Based on the project details and future volume forecasts, we are confident the expansion will pay long-term dividends for freight efficiency and rural economic development.”
Peachey Rail Works is a Pennsylvania-grown family company with over 40 years of experience in freight logistics. Currently, their Lebanon city terminal serves a rapidly expanding client base, many of whom move certified organic and feed-grade agricultural commodities. These services are not easily replicated elsewhere, making this site a strategic asset for Pennsylvania’s agriculture and food supply chain.
This investment was funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Rail Transportation Assistance Program and Rail Freight Assistance Program.
