In this Update:
Remembering the Fallen on Memorial DayTo all the men and women who selflessly gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedoms we hold dear, thank you. To the families who are missing a loved one from their lives, please know that loss was not in vain. We remember, and we appreciate the sacrifice. This past weekend, I had the honor of attending the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. It is always a solemn and humbling experience to reflect on the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our great country. I also enjoyed seeing the community come together in support at the Palmyra Memorial Day parade. My office was on hand to help hand out coloring books to all the children in attendance. Lebanon Post Office Dedicated in Honor of Lt. William D. LeboLast week, the Lebanon Post Office located at 101 South 8th St in Lebanon was officially dedicated as the “Lieutenant William D. Lebo Post Office Building”. Rep. Dan Meuser (PA-09) introduced legislation in the United States House of Representatives to make the designation possible. Lt. Lebo was tragically killed in the line of duty in 2022, one month from his retirement. He was a 63-year-old veteran of the Lebanon City Police Department. I hope the designation will be a lasting reminder of his legacy in our community. First Responder Pizza & Policy EventThis week, I joined Rep. Jamie Barton (R-124) to host a Pizza & Policy event for first responders to have an informal discussion about real issues affecting them. Thank you to all the volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians who came to the event. We heard a lot of great input, and I look forward to working collaboratively to continue advocating for additional resources for our first responders. Bill to Increase Firefighters in PA Receives Senate SupportPennsylvania relies on volunteer firefighters, but their numbers are dropping – from 300,000 in the 1970s to fewer than 38,000 today. To help ensure there are enough firefighters to respond to a crisis, the Senate passed a bill that would reform the process for people earning their firefighter certification. Senate Bill 90 would maintain the high standards to become a firefighter while making it less intimidating for men and women who are interested in serving their communities as volunteer firefighters. Currently, firefighter applicants must complete four training modules totaling 188 hours. They then must pass a cumulative test covering all four modules. The bill would allow them to be tested following each of the four modules. Senate Bill 90 heads to the House of Representatives for further consideration. Congratulations to Adam Burton and Clara TawadrousI would like to commend Cornwall-Lebanon Middle School students, Adam Burton and Clara Tawadrous who were chosen by their school to receive my annual “Good Citizenship Award”. The award recognizes students who have demonstrated five important qualities that make a good citizen- scholarship, character, service, leadership and acceptance of responsibility- in their academics, extracurricular activities and in their families. I wish them continued success in all their future endeavors. You can be aware of and plan for delays you experience driving by checking the status of construction projects in your area. Information about projects underway, beginning and being bid this year is listed here. Road work projects are chosen through an extended planning process in four-year and 12-year increments. Beware of Counterfeit Weight Loss and Diabetes DrugsIf you purchase GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, which are typically used for weight loss and diabetes, anywhere other than a licensed pharmacy, you could be buying counterfeit products. As supplies have not kept pace with overwhelming consumer demand, a counterfeit market has emerged for these drugs. Using counterfeit products is dangerous. Attorney General Dave Sunday is urging consumers to report suspicious products by calling the Drugs Tip Line at 800-442-8006. Read more.
